Did you know that skin-to-skin contact with a premature baby in known to help them grow? That is how important bonding with your baby can be.

Even before they are born, what you do affects your baby. So why not get a head start on bonding with your bundle of joy?

1.  Paying attention to their kicks and movements in utero is one way you can “get to know” your baby.

2.  Talk to your baby. It doesn’t have to be a scientific journal or poetry (although it can be!) – just say anything.

The bonding doesn’t stop once you have welcomed your little one into the world. There are still many things you can do to strengthen your bond with your baby.

1.  Spend as much time as you can with your baby. Baby-wearing has become a common practice among mothers that allows them to get things done, and not having to sacrifice bonding time!

2.   Feed your baby when they are hungry and pick them up when they cry;

3.  Have as much skin-to-skin and eye-to-eye contact as possible. This kind of responsiveness deems you to be trustworthy in your child’s eyes.

Don’t stress if it’s not going well. Just take every opportunity to touch, play, dance, sing, or read to your baby! The bond between mother and baby with strengthen naturally.

Bonding with your baby is also a great way to keep an eye on any changes in your child's health or behavior. If you suspect illness, contact Dr. Rezk at Rainbow Pediatrics at (850) 257-5524 to schedule your appointment.
